A rotating mix of 5 seasonal wines selected by the Canlis sommelier team. When I think of Canlis I think of excellent service, delicious food and a wine list to envy over.
I recently ordered a Canlis Weekender meal kit and decided to order there Somm's Choice. At first I was thinking, "$150 for wine from a restaurant. I am not going to get much."
$150 for wine from a restaurant. I am not going to get much
My experience to get these bottles had some highs and lows. I ordered this and was sad when I picked up my Weekender meal kit and they accidentally forgot to add my wine. They called on my drive home and said, "Greg, we have messed up. I am really sorry. We forgot to add your wine." The delivery was purposefully contact free and that is why I did not see it either. When you arrive you just give them your name and pop your trunk. Then they place the food inside and you drive away.
The next step was to figure out if they could deliver the wine 20 miles north or if I could pick it up the next day. I had some business I needed to take care of in downtown so I decided to pick it up the myself. I really did want this to go with my steaks that night but I picked another bottle for that evening.
The next day I arrived at the restaurant and they quickly brought out my wine. The girl I spoke to the day before personally apologized and they even through in another bottle for free and the trouble. The food, the service and the experience demonstrated here and in other visits to why Canlis is a Seattle culinary institution.
Here are the wines I received and why I think you should get one.
1. 2018 Chateau Fontaine De Penot Blanc, Bordeaux, France (Value: $17)
2. 2018 Bold, Chenin Blanc, Vista Verde Vineyard, San Benito, CA (Value: $25)
3. 2018 Gran Moraine Rose, Yamhill-Carlton,OR (Value: $30)
4. 2016 Domaine Equis, Syrah, Saint Joseph, France (Value: $50)
5. 2014 Substance Merlot, Stoneridge Vineyard, Columbia Valley,WA (Value: $56)
Total Value: $178
Bonus Bottle: 2018 Domaine De La Patience, Nemausa Rose (Value: $16)
Bottom line
Several wines are hard to find and you get your own curated 5 bottles selection. Furthermore, at $150 price tag you are not paying restaurant mark up of 2 to 4 times more expensive than retail. Instead you are getting a premium selection of great wines, less than retail!
Go get yourself amazing wine and enjoy! Shhh... don't tell Canlis I told you! Our little secret!
